Workshop: Now, then, and forever

How do narratives, prognoses, and visualizations of the past and future shape present-day events, decisions, and social structures? These themes will be explored in a for a two-day workshop at the Department of Sociology at Lund University 23-24 May 2024.

Poster with text outlining a call for papers and presentations for a workshop on how ideas about the past and future influence actions, decisions, and structures in the present

The ambition of the meeting is to create a forum for discussion and collaboration among researchers from the social sciences, science studies, and humanities whose work investigates the role of other temporalities in the present. Possible workshop topics include how prognoses and risk analyses inform decision-making, how narratives of historic and prehistoric societies or actors are used to legitimize present day actions and structures, and the ways in which actors seek to adapt present day works to future societies.

Please submit abstracts by March 24.

The workshop is supported by Riksbankens Jubileumsfond and is free of charge with accommodation available for presenting participants.
